How to Introduce Sounds and Spellings
This presentation shows how the sounds are introduced in the RoxieReading curriculums.
The Actions for the Sounds
Review the Actions for the Sounds found on pages 251- 255 of your text. The Actions for the Sounds are one of the most powerful activities you can use for struggling readers. These actions are embedded in the lessons in RoxieReading A and RoxieReading 1.
Fry’s 300 Instant Sight Words
Download Fry’s 300 Instant Sight Words. The words that are highlighted with an arrow are words that do not follow the strict rules of the graphemes BUT students with good skills can actually sound these out. They say it incorrectly and then self correct. “Where have you bean?” “Oh, where have you been?”
The words that are just highlighted are the 14 true sight words. The other 277 words are decodable and follow strict phonemic rules.
